The First University Established by American Southern Presbyterian Missionaries
In March, 1956, Daejeon Christian Academy was founded chiefly through the efforts of Dr. William A. Linton, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the American Southern Presbyterian Mission in Korea. Three years later, in 1959, the college was renamed Daejeon College and Dr. Linton was elected as president. In September, 1970, Daejeon College merged with Soongsil University to create Soongjeon University. These two schools, sharing the same founding goals and philosophy, became a united university under the management of the United Christian Foundation of Higher Learning. In November, 1982, Daejeon Christian Academy decided to separate from Soongjeon University to meet the changing needs of the local communities. It was named Hannam College until 1985, when it attained the status of a university. Since its beginning, the foundation precepts - Truth, Freedom, and Service, based on the principles of Christian teaching - have influenced all aspects of life on the campus. It currently maintains seven graduate schools, ten colleges, seven divisions, 44 departments, 9 auxiliary organizations, 8 research institutes, and 108 sister colleges and institutions in more than 23 foreign countries. Its campus site occupies 429,752 square meters and the total capacity of all school buildings is 125,620 square meters. Its affiliate facilities include the University Chapel, with a total audience capacity of nearly 1,800, and the Main Stadium. In 2008, it opened its bio-tech center at Daedeok Valley Campus, which occupies over 92,562 square meters.
Jesus said "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6
