Position Description

Assistant Professor in Practical English

College of General Education

Hannam University

Responsibilities: The College of General Education at Hannam University is now looking for dynamic individuals for a non-tenure-track, with a one-year renewable contract as an Assistant Professor. Candidates are expected to teach courses in the HNU Practical English Program and other courses based on the candidate’s background and expertise. Selected candidates are expected to serve in a professional and administrative capacity based on the needs of the college. Teach a minimum of 12 hours a week. Additional hours are paid at overtime rates. The position also requires 6 hours of office hours per week and participation in periodic faculty meetings. Advising and mentoring of undergraduate students is also expected.

Qualifications: Candidate must have a M.A. degree and at least 2 years teaching and research experiences by the date of appointment. Candidate must possess disciplinary depth in a field relevant to Practical English. The candidate must have strong communication skills and classroom teaching experience.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with background and experiences. Salary is calculated according to degree level and university teaching experience.

Master’s degree holders: Starting salaries from 27,000,000 won per year (in case of M.A but no experience). 50% of monthly health insurance premiums paid by the university. 50% of monthly pension contribution paid jointly by the government and university.

Application: For the 1^st screening, applicants should submit 1) Curriculum vitae and a letter of application describing your teaching and research interests and experience. 2) Degree certificate(s) (Scanned copies or photo copies can be acceptable initially). 3) Reference letters (required to provide the names and contact information of three professional references). 4) List of publications (not necessary, but preferable). 5) Academic Transcripts (B.A, M.A, Ph.D). 6) Criminal records. 7) Copy of Alien card (both front and back sides). 8) Copy of passport 9) A letter of consent 10) Proofs of employment. 11) 4 photos (8.3x5.4cm and 3x4cm photograph size)

Review of applications will begin on November  08, 2014.

Interview will be held from November 12 to 14, 2014. (Teaching starts March 1, 2015)

Applicants must have an E-1 or E-2 VISA and be required to submit all relevant background checks in accordance with government policies.

HNU will provide housing for faculty adjacent to campus.
